EXECUTIVE EDITION

From the Personal to the Cultural

Dr. Jeremy Hunter, Founding Director at Executive Mind Leadership Institute, speaks often about the importance of managers being able to manage themselves, of developing a self-awareness of your emotions and biases and how they impact others in the workplace.

Remaining aware of how your mind functions—how it frames situations—requires the development of an objective self-perspective, which mindfulness practice cultivates. This broadening of self-perspective proves valuable for executives whose decisions create a momentum that ripples outward into an organization’s culture.

The Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute reports that mindfulness practice improves leadership by:

1.     Improving your intuition

2.     Reducing your fight or flight response

3.     Controlling how you react to emotions

4.     Reducing procrastination

5.     Boosting happiness for yourself and your team

We learn to look inward to enhance our self-awareness, to transform negative emotions into positive alternatives such as creating compassion out of impatience. By training yourself to take in the fullest picture possible, you learn to manage your attention over time.

You confirm that your attention has somewhere “good to go”, that you’re not distracted by mind-wandering and/or turbulent emotions. By eliminating rumination and negativity, you return to a growth mindset regardless of the chaos around you—you ground yourself.

Mindfulness practice can neutralize the burnout that leadership and “knowledge workers” experience when tasked with making high-stakes decisions that shape morale and a competitive edge. A culture of empathy and emotional intelligence starts at the top of the pyramid, where the leadership creates the vision and culture.

Creative Mindfulness Lab© workshops leverage creativity as a stepping-stone to meditation discipline and wisdom. Benefits begin with the strengthening of individual and interpersonal bonds which impacts collaboration, ideas-sharing, performance, and productivity. These practices can even offset the exhaustion that drives attrition.

These are more than just wellness workshops.

They’re experiences.

In-Person Instruction

I work in-person in New York City and provide all instructional and art-making materials. All that’s required is a quiet room with tables and chairs where participants can sit upright during meditations. Classrooms and cafeterias have also worked well for these exercises.

Online Instruction

I’m also available to teach online for clients residing outside New York City. While I can set up Zoom rooms or similar meetings, I do not provide art-making materials for online groups. I can suggest basic supplies to be purchased beforehand, however.
