The Prompts

#1 - Describe your earliest memory of spiritual curiosity. What sparked it? A church, temple, or holy place? Was it a person, event, or book? Bring the scene to life in rich, sensory detail.

#2 - Think back to a time when you were working at a job you’re no longer at, or in a relationship you’re no longer in, or when you lived in a city, house, or apartment you no longer live in. Or when you listened to music you don’t listen to anymore or hung out with friends you no longer hang out with. Write a letter to this former version of “you” about the importance of letting go.

#3 - Write about a time when you performed an act of generosity (giving time, energy, or material help) without expecting anything in return. How did this affect your sense of self and connection to others?

#4 - Describe a time when you exercised focused and dedicated personal discipline. Was there a goal or achievement involved? If so, why was it important? How did this act of discipline impact others around you?

#5 - Write a letter to someone who’s passed away and tell them about the things that have happened since they left. Include one key thing you’ve learned in their absence.

#6 - Describe an experience where you summoned an extraordinary degree of effort, of putting lots of energy into something—an exceptional event. This could include running a marathon or pursuing an academic or creative endeavor, something that requires a lot of energy and focus to propel you to an endpoint or goal. What was the goal? Did you succeed or fail? What did you learn?

#7 - Describe a time when you showed yourself exceptional self-care or self-love. Examples include cleaning up your diet, starting a new exercise program, healing from illness, or pursuing creative and/or spiritual growth. Describe the events that prompted this, the actions you took, and the result.
